April 10, Brussels > Earthquake in Abruzzo Region, Domenici: Cities and Regions should gather aid to the devasted area.
The President of Anci (the National Association of Italian Cities) wrote a letter to the Presqident oft he Commmittee of the regions of the EU Luc Van Der Brande to invite regional and local
representative form all over Europe to gather aid in favour of the municipalities hit by the eartquake the dedicated Bank account of ANCI
(ANCI – Emergenza Terremoto in Abruzzo, IBAN IT 56 D03226 03203 000500074907).
“I consider of great importance – Domenici wrote - if the Committee of the Regions could promote and gather the solidarity coming from local and regional authorities from the 27 European
countries. A virtuous circle of solidarity coming from all the territories of the European Union could rise to sustain the reconstruction beyond the emergency.”
Specific monuments and public buildings which will be restored thanks to the contribution of the Committee of the Regions, will have an inscription giving evidence of the Committee of the Regions’ solidarity coming
form the effort of local authorities from all over Europe.
“I am sure you will give your personal support to this initiative- concludes Domenici in his letter- which fosters solidarity among regions and communities thus bringing Europe closer to its citizens and territories and
giving concreteness to the territorial cohesion.”
Marta Vincenzi, President of the ANCI IDEALI Foundation and Mayor of Genoa, supports the initiative, and declares a strong commitment of the Foundation to promote the solidarity of European Cities to restore L’Aquila
and the neighbouring villages hit by the such a devastating Earthquake . “I wish that the many links the Foundation has with networks, associations, and partners all over Europe will be willing to help in concrete terms
the Abruzzo communities so tragically hit”.
